Dear Francesco, thank you for these very interesting thoughts. I fully agree with all four, in particular nr3. This being said, unless I missed it, you are misregarding the" competition" to a given role. At the end of the day, this "promotion" game is not that far to "strategic selling". You certainly need to embody the expected "value proposition and network with the people in the role. I would also suggest to network with potential "competitors" in the role and perform a SWOT analysis in order to define your attack/defend strategy :-)

This is really insightful! I'm wondering what your thoughts are about ultimatums as a way of negotiating promotions? (I.e getting another job offer from another company and using it as leverage internally)
